Briar is a Senior Associate in B&A's Auckland office. Briar has worked as a planner in both the public and private section in New Zealand and Australia. Briar began her planning career in central government working for the Ministry for the Environment. She then went on to work for a multidisciplinary consultancy and in local government. Since joining the B&A team, Briar has worked with private, local and central government clients throughout New Zealand.
Ruth is an Associate in B&A’s Christchurch office. Ruth has worked as a planner in government and consultancy roles based in Christchurch, Queenstown and Brisbane. She enjoys working with a wide range of clients around the South Island helping them with planning policy and resource consent projects.
Abstract
Climate Change and RMA Plans
The planning system is a key tool for developing community resilience to the impacts of climate change. We will consider how we can respond as planners charged with preparing RPS, Regional Plans and District Plans and if it is possible to imbed solutions meaningfully and effectively within the NZ planning framework. Recent and upcoming legislative change will also be discussed. This presentation will outline some of our thinking and research, including international examples, on some practical first steps and ideas for addressing climate change in the planning framework in New Zealand.
